What is a acid mantle?
A protective film that sits on the surface of your skin, it acts as a barrier between skin and the outside world.
What are the factors that affect the acid mantle pH?
Genetics, aging, lifestyle, air, water, pollution, sun, skin moisture, and application of cosmetic and personal care product are just a few.
What are the characteristics that disrupt the acid mantle?
skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea, dermatitis, skin inflammation, and dehydrated skin are a few to name.
How can you protect and restore the acid mantle?
Avoid using harsh products that strip the skin of its natural oils e.g. highly alkaline pH products. Use products with in the skins healthy pH range (pH 4.5-6.5), use sunscreen, use oil or gel based cleansers to help restore the skins moisture and balance its oil production.
What are some categories of skin aging?
Biological aging-genetics, environmental aging- UV rays, smoke, pollution, harsh weather, and mechanical behavior- repeated muscle movements such as frowning, squinting, smiling.
What are some visible signs of aging?
Dry skin, rough skin, fine lines and wrinkles, age spots, loss of skin firmness.
What are some reasons for dry skin?
Fewer ceramides, lipids and fatty acids are produced therefore the moisture barrier becomes week, resulting in an increase in trans epidermal water loss and thus, skin dryness.
What are some reasons for rough skin?
Rate of skin cell renewal decreases, causing cells to not shed so easily. The skin also becomes thinner because of reduced rate of skin cell renewal and therefore more likely to get damaged by environmental factors such as the sun’s UV rays.
What are some reasons for fine lines and wrinkles?
Decrease in collagen production and also the collagen fibres degrade faster then the earlier years. Therefore the overall amount of collagen in the dermis decreases. Areas of skin with less support begin to cave in and wrinkles start to form.
What are some differences in LUXHURY’s soaps and store-bought soaps?
LUXHURY’s soaps are detergent free. A natural skin softener (emollient), glycerin attracts water from the air around it. Because of this, it is used in products to help maintain moisture in the skin. During the soap-making process, the oils/fats and lye blend together in order to form soap while glycerin maintains its integrity and settles in between these soap molecules.
In store-bought soaps, most of the glycerin has been removed and by-products have been included instead. The reason is because it makes the need for a consumer to buy another product to moisturize their skin after using one that dried their skin out. This increases the profit of commercial companies selling soap in regular stores.
How does the FDA define soap?
To be regulated as “soap,” the product must be composed mainly of the “alkali salts of fatty acids,” that is, the material you get when you combine fats or oils with an alkali, such as lye.

My store-bought soap says its “natural” or “organic” why is there no claims on LUXHURY’s soaps?
We make no claims because we list our ingredients in which you can see are detergent free. Just because a soap makes of claim of “natural” or “organic” doesn’t mean it is. Here is what the FDA says, “The laws and regulations that FDA enforces do not have definitions for “natural” or “organic.” The same requirements apply to your product no matter whether the ingredients are plant, animal, mineral, or synthetic. It’s important not to assume that using only ingredients from plants will make your products safe.”

How do LUXHURY’s soaps differ from Anti-bacterial soap?
LUXHURY is detergent free soap with added fragrances. I can assume you are buying anti-bacterial soap because you are trying to make you and your family safer. The FDA says “manufacturers haven’t proven that those ingredients are safe for daily use over a long period of time. Also, manufacturers haven’t shown that these ingredients are any more effective than plain soap and water in preventing illnesses and the spread of certain infections. Some manufacturers have already started removing these ingredients from their products, ahead of the FDA’s final rule.” So, my question to you how do you know your anti-bacterial soap is safer? How do you know if there is not any long term affects from using it?

What is the difference between hydrating vs moisturizing in cosmetic products?
Moisturizing refers to creating a barrier on the skin to retain the skins water content in the skin and also preventing trans epidermal water loss.
Hydrating refers to increasing the water content of the skin usually by water binding to the humectant.
What ingredients help moisturize the skin?
There are three different categories of ingredients that help moisturize the skin; those are: emollients, humectants, and occlusives.
An emollient is oils such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, etc, or lipids.
A humectant is a water-soluble ingredient with high water absorption capabilities, such as glycerin, sodium hyaluronate, alpha hydroxy acids, urea, or propylene glycol.
An occlusive coat the surface of the skin to form a barrier to prevent water loss, such as oils like argan oil, beeswax, butters like cocoa butter, and silicones such as dimethicone.
